The self-described "bummer pop" outfit E. Coli was led by singer/guitarist John Napier, a Los Angeles native who formed the band in 1994 following the break-up of his previous group Ethyl Meatplow and a subsequent tenure in Nitzer Ebb. After beating a drug problem, Napier (who also worked writing music for cartoons produced for the Nickelodeon cable network) recruited bassist James Sanders and drummer Dennis Fleps to record To Drool, a brooding, melancholy collection issued on the Triple X label in 1996. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
