The list of speakers is growing for the rally planned for Salmon Arm Marine Peace Park on Thursday, the day the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Board takes a look at some controversial waterfront developments around Shuswap Lake.

The Shuswap's most famous writer Gail Anderson-Dargatz will address the rally, joining Joe Foy of the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, Dr Warren Bell and others. The author is currently working on a book called 'The Spawning Grounds" about the land use conflicts that threaten salmon.

Another speaker will be Mrs Clara Johnston local elder and long time Salmon Arm resident. The 97 year old is a former teacher and community activist.

Shuswap Environmental Action Society President Jim Cooperman says in a note to followers, staff is now recommending no further readings for the West Beach proposal near the mouth of the Adams River on the North Shuswap or the Waverly Park condo-marina proposal for 3 kms West of Sorrento. Cooperman says staff will however recommend third reading for the Carmel Cove project on the South Shuswap. That is a development built for rental units but now the proposal is to sell them and put in a private marina.
