Caballero was also a student of Vega, Eslava and Albeniz at the conservatory of music in Madrid. Until his eyesight failed him Caballero was a prolific and talented composer of dramatic musical scores with spoken dialogue with national flavorings (zarzuelas). He was able to compose, perform and/or conduct his works in Cuba, Lisbon, Madrid, and many places in South America.
