Just as finely programmed and finely produced as his late '90s material for Sublime and Peacefrog, Pregenesis shows Curtin coming full circle with productions that highlight his listening debts: from hip-hop to new wave and electro to progressive house. The opener, "Bring It Back," is a fine showcase, weaving Curtin's nods to British ambient-techno, rap, and acid-house over the course of its ten minutes. Most of these tracks aren't as hard as his last full-length, 1997's Deception, though many of them reflect the same melodic influence that sounds almost Oriental, as if there's a few Yellow Magic Orchestra LPs (or Japanese video games) somewhere in his past.
