D'Cruze - Control
Few jungle producers mashed up drums and vocal samples with the manic intensity of Jay D'cruze, and the result is this programming-heavy LP, just the second released by Suburban Base in 1995 (after plenty of singles). From the breakdown snare rush and time-stretched chatting that introduces the opener "Come Back" to the metallic mangling of a diva wail and Ginsu-chopped beats on "Ruf Intelligence Revisited," Control aptly shows D'cruze's mastery of the mixing board (uncoincidentally pictured on the front cover). Though he often goes back and forth between house- and ragga-influenced tracks, Control is a distinguished early effort at stretching jungle out into the full-length realm. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
